How a High End Appliance Ruined Our Thanksgiving

High End Appliance
It is common sense that what makes Thanksgiving special is the turkey dinner. The turkey is clearly the most important element of the meal; it takes the center of attention, usually the center of the table, and takes up the most room in our bellies.

It is pretty disappointing when your turkey turns out a little... disappointing.

That was the case this Thanksgiving when my turkey turned out dry and tasteless. I blame it on a high end appliance, which cooked that turkey so dry, there was no juice in the pan to baste it with. My lesson learned is that if you are going to get an appliance, make sure it cooks better than it looks.

Small Kitchen Appliances are Unappreciated

small kitchen appliances
The saying that good things come in small packages is sometimes very true, especially when we are talking about small kitchen appliances. Small kitchen appliances are often overlooked by consumers, especially by the younger generations, but there is a lot of great things to be found in the world of small kitchen appliances.

Take, for example, a toaster oven, one of my favorites. This appliance is a little multi-tasker. Not only can it toast your bagel, but it can bake your dinner or broil your steak. There is absolutely no need to heat up your giant oven to bake a few pieces of chicken when your little toaster oven can do the job with less energy, less mess, and less time.

Another big time saver is a food processor. We can thank the kitchen gods for the gift of the food processor, which can chop, cut, blend, make dough, and do a great number of other tasks. The time required to make salsa is cut to a quarter of the original time.

In this busy world, we should be taking advantage of every chance we get to save some time and energy, and that is exactly what small appliances do for us.

Rentals and Used Appliances

Used Appliances
I have been renting for a long time, and I have never lived in a house where the appliances were as old and beaten as the ones in the house I currently live in.

I have no problem with used appliances; I just want ones that actually work properly. Take our stove, for example. It is an old gas stove, and unfortunately only the two burners in the back work. The burners in the front only release gas, resulting in a pungent odor in the kitchen.

The oven makes a constant ticking sound as it bakes, making cooking more than a little annoying. Nothing cooks evenly in that oven, and I have to add another ten minutes or so on to the baking time of any recipe.

The Results From Recent Appliance Reviews

Appliance Reviews Consumer Reports are great indicators of how items really shape up; they are tried and tested by real people who spend their own money and form their own opinions about how certain products measure up.

This year's appliance reviews have just come out, and they are certainly worth taking note of. There are some very interesting tips that arise after studying the Consumer Reports.

One is that buying a washer/dryer set is very trendy, and looks nice, but does not always promise you are getting the best of both worlds. It is sometimes better to find the perfect washer, one that is energy efficient and actually cleans the clothes without destroying them, and then finding the perfect dryer. If they happen to be made by the same company, that's great. However, if you are more interested in energy efficiency and performance than appearance alone, you might want to research all the different models.

The most expensive doesn't always mean the best to use. Some cooking appliances have features you don't need that cost a whole lot of extra money to purchase and then maintain. One example is huge burners on a stove when you use just average size pots. You are paying for all that extra power and heat that you are just not going to use.

Get appliances that work especially for you, not just ones that look cool.

Kitchen Appliances For Christmas

kitchen appliances
If you are at a loss of what to get your husband or wife for Christmas, you should consider getting something the whole family can enjoy. New kitchen appliances make surprisingly good gifts, because they are items we use almost every day.

A brand new stove to replace that old, ugly one would make your kitchen look nicer and would actually make you want to cook a little more. If the cooking experience is better, the food will probably turn out better as well. That means more home cooked meals and more quality family time.

A stove is just one example; think of all the different possibilities.

The built-in dishwasher has a steam clean cycle, which promises flawlessly clean results. A dishwasher like this is great for people who love to entertain, for who would want to offer their guests spotted silverware or dishes?

Like other Whirlpool companies, Jenn-Air offers this dishwasher in an energy-efficient fashion. It uses somewhere between three and ten gallons of water per cycle. It is estimated that hand washing can use up to thirty gallons.
