New Electrolux Appliances Reduce C02
By getting rid of old appliances and replacing with new ones, the average American household could reduce its carbon footprint by about three percent, says appliance maker Electrolux.
Electrolux on a new Internet site they calculate how people can reduce their carbon footprint by replacing old refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, and air conditioners with new Electrolux appliances.
If all Dallas-Fort Worth area households with appliances more than ten years old updated to efficient new appliances:
* CO2 emissions could be reduced by about 539 million pounds annually which Electrox reckons would be like taking 47,000 cars off the road
* about 3.1 billion gallons of water conserved annually, or enough to fill four new Dallas Cowboys stadiums
* about 350 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity consumption, enough to power 29,100 homes
* about $47.7 million dollars saved
The individual homeowner could reduce annual energy consumption by as much as 867 kWh; save 7,920 gallons of water per year, and cut utility costs by about $1300 over a 10-year-period, which is kind of like cutting it by $130 a year; if you take the $1300 and divide it by the 10-year-period you come up with $130 per year.
